Alex Clarke in his practice shy’s away from representational imagery, preferring instead the language of minimalism and abstraction. He carefully plans his work applying many layers of paint and colour, collaging torn pieces of paper on his canvasses and making beautiful line paintings. Although at first glance Clarke’s work may appear simple, closer inspection reveals a strong material presence, depth and emotionally expressive qualities.
